Legal Marriage Requirements in Japan

Sa kulturang Filipino, marami sa mga Pinoy ang nangangarap na makapag-asawa ng ibang lahi tulad ng Japanese nationality. Ito ay sa kadahilanang ibig ng mga Pinay na makaahon sa kahirapan sa pinakamadaling paraan. Ikalawa, sila ay may ambisyong makarating sa Japan upang makapamuhay ng malaya, masaya at tahimik na kasama ang kanilang bagong pamilya na may kaakibat na pag-asa para sa isang mgandang bukas. Ngunit ang isang fairy tale marriage ay may mga batas na dapat sundin ng dalawang magkaibang lahi na kapwa nagmamahalan despite of their respective cultural diversities. Una sa lahat, ang isang sagradong marital union ay maaaring isaggawa sa embassy o consulate sa Japan or if both parties would mutually agree upon, ito ay pwedeng isaggawa sa bansa ng inyong lifetime partner. Likewise, if you are to marry a Japanese national abroad, a pertinent document has to be submitted. This is lawfully referred to as a certificate of marriage qualification. As far as its availability is concerned, you can legally obtain it from the regional branch office of the Legal Affairs Bureau.

Also, if you wish to tie the knot in Japan without those stressful legal impediments with a Japanese or a foreign national, you must register your marriage at a duly registered municipal office.  This must be authentically signed by two adult witnesses in the said marriage ceremony.

Similarly, a foreign national will be required to present a certificate of legal capacity in order to legally contract the marriage itself. This is a document that is being issued kung saan kayo isinilang. Ito ang magsisilbing matibay na katibayan na ang bawat partido ay nakatugon sa mga kinakailangang requirements para sa isang successful marriage sa Japan under the laws of your respective home country. General Requirements

Besides the aforementioned legal requirements, if you want to settle down in Japan, you must take heed of these additional getting married pointers. These are:

  • Males must be of legal age from 18 years old and above. For the brides to be, females must be 16 years old or older.
  • For males who are below 20, a parental consent is deemed necessary.
  • Persons with previous marriages cannot remarry by any other means.
  • Women cannot get married within 6 months after the dissolution of her previous marriage.
  • Parent and child by adoption should not get married.
