Mastering a No-Makeup Makeup

It’s all about a fresh faced glow and letting your natural beauty shine through. It also feels lighter on the skin, allowing you to breathe a little easier and worry less about touching up throughout the day. These simple steps are easy and quick to do before you head out the door on your next adventure.

Step one: Apply a BB cream or sheer foundation. Always start with a clean and moisturized face and wait five to ten minutes after applying serum. We love 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Tinted Moisturizer or Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream (if you also want SPF). These both give a gentle kiss of color and smooth out uneven skin tone. The key is to let your natural skin shine through, not completely cover it up.

Tip: Blend with clean fingertips.

Step two: Conceal any blemishes with a small concealer brush and the under eye area by patting with your ring finger. We love the 100% Pure’s Long Last Concealer (used for this look). Josie Maran’s Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon is also fantastic! Setting with a light powder (try Everyday Minerals Finishing Dust) helps prevent creasing and lasts much longer.

Tap off excess on your brush and gently press into the under eye area instead of sweeping the brush. Same goes for setting any blemishes you’ve concealed—press into the skin or else you’ll disturb the concealer you’ve so carefully placed. If needed, apply a light layer of mineral foundation powder on your nose, forehead, chin, or anywhere you tend to get shiny. For this, the Everyday Minerals Semi Matte Base is wonderful.

Step three: Create a natural flush on the cheeks. Cream blushes are fantastic for creating a natural appearance. For this look, we used a cream/gel hybrid—the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape. Gently pat and blend on the apples of your cheeks, making sure the edges are thoroughly blended out. This will last all day and you won’t get a caked on look that can happen with powder blushes.

Step four: Eyebrow time! Comb and fill in empty spots in your brows and set with a gel. Resist filling them in too heavily, however make sure they are defined to pull the look together. We love Tarte’s Amazonian Colored Clay Tinted Brow Gel (in medium brown). You can tint and set at the same time. Double win.

Step five: Apply a light neutral eye shadow to define your crease if you like, but go easy! This look should make people notice your beautiful eyes, not your eye shadow. Alima Pure’s Satin Matte Eyeshadow in Fleur is a beautiful option for this look. Matte shadows are typically best, but you do you!

Step six: Curl lashes and apply mascara. Naomi used her all-time favorite, 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Ultra Lengthening Mascara in Blackberry for naturally separated, lengthened lashes. This doesn’t create fall out and washes off surprisingly easily at the end of the day.

Step seven: Finish with a moisturizing lip color that complements your natural skin tone and warms your face—a ‘your lips but better’ shade. Try Genfiore’s Hydrasheer Botanic Lip Gloss in Autumn. If you’re want a matte lipstick in the perfect nude, try Nudus Lip Euphoria in Naked.

That’s it! Now let your hair down and let your inner beauty glow through!
