Pink Paradise at Jonangu Shrine in Kyoto

Japan, Kyoto – Weeping “ume” plum tree flowers are seen at their best at Jonangu Shrine in Kyoto’s Fushimi Ward in this recent photo. The some 150 trees with pink and white blossoms attract many visitors to the shrine gardens, and this year is no exception. A 70-year-old woman from Tokyo who was painting the flowers in watercolors called the scene “wonderful!” adding, “I can smell the elegant scent, which is different from cherry blossoms.” The shrine is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Last entry is at 4 p.m. The entrance fee is 600 yen for adults and 400 yen for elementary and junior high school students. For inquiries, call the shrine at 075-623-0846 (in Japanese).
