17-year-old girl arrested at a shopping mall bathroom for murdering a newborn baby
Police arrested a 17-year-old girl in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, on suspicion of murdering her newborn son with scissors right after he was born in a shopping mall bathroom last month.
According to police, the girl gave birth sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. on Dec 18, Sankei Shimbun reported. She is then alleged to have stabbed the infant in the neck with a pair of scissors.
The police said the girl went to the shopping mall after school with a friend, but she began to feel unwell and went to the bathroom. Her friend asked a mall employee to dial 119 when she was not coming out.
The ambulance crew found her slumping in the bathroom, the dead baby on the concrete, and the scissors stained with blood. Police said there was a 5-cm-deep gash in the neck of the dead infant.
The police informed them that the girl, who had been in the hospital until this week, had not consulted anyone about her pregnancy. Before arresting her on Thursday, they waited until she recovered.
