7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Fukushima

7.1 magnitude earthquake hit  coast of eastern Japan on Feb. 13, but there appeared to be no major damage and no tsunami warning was issued.

The epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of 60 km, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The earthquake hit at 11:08 p.m. local time and shook buildings in the capital. There were no reports of irregularities at the Tokaimura nuclear facility, public broadcaster NHK said. The Meteorological Agency said no tsunami warning had been issued.

There was no threat of a tsunami from the quake, and no immediate reports of major damage. More than 800,000 households were hit by blackouts, according to Tokyo Electric Power Co.
