7-Magnitude Quake Triggers Tsunami Alert in Ishikawa, Japan

On the afternoon of the 1st, shortly after 4 p.m., an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 was detected in the Noto region, Ishikawa-ken, resulting in the issuance of a tsunami alert.

The impacts in various areas are continuously being updated.

TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS:
Affected Shinkansen and Operations Suspended on Several Lines

According to JR East, services for Akita Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen, and Hokuriku Shinkansen remain suspended with no estimated time for resumption due to the severe earthquake in the region.

However, the Tohoku Shinkansen line, initially suspended, was resumed around 4:41 p.m.

Partial Suspension of Tokaido Shinkansen

JR Tokai reported that, due to the activation of the safety system in response to the tremor, Tokaido Shinkansen operations between Tokyo and Odawara, as well as between Toyohashi and Shin-Kobe stations, are temporarily suspended in both directions. The resumption of services is pending confirmation of safety by JR Tokai.

HIGHWAY CLOSURES:
Interdiction on Kan-Etsu and Tokai-Kanetsu Highways

Segments of Kan-Etsu and Tokai-Kanetsu highways are closed to traffic due to the earthquake. On Kan-Etsu, closures occur between Toyama and Maruoka exits, as well as between Namerikawa and Uozu exits, in both directions. On Tokai-Kanetsu, the interdiction covers the area between Shirakawago exit in Gifu and Kojo exit in Toyama, in both directions.

Interruption on Joshinetsu Highway

According to Japan’s Road Traffic Information Center, the following highways are temporarily closed due to the intensity of the tremor:

POWER OUTAGE INFORMATION:
About 3,600 Residences without Power in Niigata

According to Tohoku Electric Power’s electrical grid, approximately 3,600 residences are without power in Niigata Prefecture.

In Niigata, 1,700 residences in Sanjo, 1,000 in Kashiwazaki, 500 in Itoigawa, 300 in Joetsu, 30 in Tsubame, and fewer than 10 in Karuizawa are facing power supply disruptions. The situation is being closely monitored for prompt resolution.
