AICHI: Pinoy Arrested for Attempted Murder of Father in Tsushima

A shocking incident took place in Tsushima City, Aichi Prefecture, early on April 28, when a 23-year-old man was arrested for stabbing his father in the abdomen with a kitchen knife. The suspect, identified as Ryan Ken Baranag, a Filipino national with no known occupation, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. on the street in front of the family’s home in Oimatsucho. A local resident called emergency services after discovering the 76-year-old man collapsed on the road with a knife lodged in his abdomen.
The victim, who lived with the suspect and other family members, was rushed to the hospital and was conscious at the time of transport. Fortunately, his condition was stable, and he is expected to recover.
During questioning, Baranag admitted to the crime, reportedly telling officers, “No mistake.” Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack, including potential domestic issues or psychological factors.
This case highlights growing concerns over domestic violence and mental health in family settings, particularly within multicultural households in Japan. The police urge the public to report signs of family conflict before they escalate into violence.
