The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 31 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, up 17 from a week ago.
The figure has been below 50 for 26 straight days.
Tokyo officials also say the number of seriously ill coronavirus patients stands at nine, down one from Wednesday. The nationwide figure is 92, down four from Wednesday.
It’s the first time since July last year that the number has been below 10.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 216. Osaka Prefecture had the most cases with 64, followed by Tokyo, Kanagawa (14), and Yamaguchi (11). Twenty-three prefectures reported no cases.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths was four.
