BAD YOUTUBER CHALLENGE: Riding the Shinkansen without paying, etc.
Phidias is a male YouTuber from Cyprus, reportedly living in the U.S. As of March 24, he had about 2.38 million subscribers to his channel, and he has been traveling around the world and doing various projects.
The controversial video he released on March 21, titled “I traveled all over Japan for free. The video is entitled “I traveled all over Japan for free”. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize, and he was competing against three other YouTubers to see how long he could stay in Japan without spending any money.
Phidias, who said he had no money for bus fare, “asked strangers to give me money,” and begged ordinary people at the bus stop for money for transportation. Even then, he was taken in by the police for not having enough for a fraction of the fare.
Phidias claims to have spent about five hours with the police, but he did not seem to learn his lesson and declared that he would board the Shinkansen and ride without paying. He locked himself in the restroom to escape inspection during the ride. Station staff, who were apparently aware of his fare-free ride, were waiting for him at the exit, but when asked to show them his ticket, Phidias cowered in place, claiming that he was sick. He then ran away, scattering the station staff who were chasing him.
Other participants were also observed riding without paying in a similar manner.
