Mount Shirane located in Kusatsu erupted adound 10 am on January 23. 12 are wounded according to the reports struck by stones from the erupting volcano and some are confirmed dead. The eruption was unexpected and was said to be inactive for the past years. It is a tourist spot for skiiers and there were tourist trapped inside cable cars above the said volcano during the incident. 5 persons are still missing.
