JAPAN’S “2024 PROBLEM”
Japan currently grapples with a significant shortage of truck and delivery drivers. To address this issue, the government has introduced a policy aimed at reducing overtime work for truck drivers. However, with over 90 percent of cargo transportation in the country reliant on roads, this move is anticipated to result in a 14 percent decline in delivery capacity by the year 2024. As a consequence, Japan faces an urgent need to recruit and train more drivers to meet the escalating demands of the transportation sector in the coming year.
