As the new fiscal year began and many companies held induction ceremonies, JR East held an opening ceremony for its foreign technical intern trainees.

Mr. Jeamjit Paradon, representative of the technical intern trainees:
”I will do my best to learn the job. I look forward to working with you.””

Six technical intern trainees from Thailand have joined JR East and will spend three years learning railroad car inspection and maintenance techniques.

Hitoshi Suzuki, Managing Director of JR East:
“We are aware that the shortage of labor is a major issue, especially in the fields of railroads, such as track, electricity, and rolling stock,” said Hitoshi Suzuki, Managing Director of JR East.”

The government plans to add four fields, including railroads and automobile transportation, to the “Specified Technical Skills Level 1” category, which is a status of residence for foreign nationals who can be immediately effective in the workplace.

JR East intends to consider allowing foreign nationals to continue working if their intentions are met.
