JTA: FOREIGN TOURISTS TRIPLED
According to the first preliminary report of November overnight travel statistics released by the Japan Tourism Agency on November 26, the number of overnight stays at hotels and inns in Japan increased 16.9% from the same month last year to a total of 53,560,680.
The number of Japanese visitors was 4,195,410, down 0.1%, while the number of foreigners was 3.1 times higher at 1,160,670.
The number of visitors to Japan recovered to almost the same level as in 2019, when the number of visitors was the highest on record, and the lodging industry is also driving this recovery.
The occupancy rate for inns and hotels was 61.0%, up 3.4 points.

The second preliminary report for October was also released. South Koreans accounted for 13.5% of foreign overnight visitors, topping the list by country/region. Taiwanese and Chinese followed with 13.3% and 11.9%, respectively.
