MISSING SURFER: Rescued after 27 hours in Kagoshima
A male surfer had been missing from the coast of Higashikushira-cho, Kagoshima Prefecture since the August 14, but on the 15th, a tanker sailing off the coast of Cape Toimisaki in Miyazaki Prefecture found him and rescued him safely after 27 hours.
According to the Shibushi Coast Guard Station, a 41-year-old man from Miyakonojo City was surfing at Kashiwabara Beach in Higashikushira Town when he was swept out to sea and went missing at around 10:00 a.m. on the 14th.
The police and coast guard station were searching the sea in the vicinity, and shortly after 1:00 p.m. on the 15th, a tanker crew passing by the area found the man on a surfboard waving to the sea off Cape Toimisaki, about 30 km away from the site, and rescued him.
The man was transferred to a patrol boat and taken to Shibushi Port, where he was transported to the hospital. The man has symptoms of dehydration and injured muscles, but is listed as non-life-threatening.
