NEPAL QUAKE: 150 DEAD

A strong earthquake struck western Nepal at around 11:47 p.m. on March 3 (3:02 a.m. EDT), killing more than 150 people so far.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake is estimated to be 5.7 on the Richter scale, and the epicenter is about 16.5 km deep.
The epicenter is said to be in Jhajarkot and surrounding mountainous areas about 500 km northwest of the capital, Kathmandu.

According to the Nepalese government, about 375 people were injured. The hospital in Jhajarkot is said to be full of injured people. The government has dispatched security forces to the area to assist rescue operations.
