NOTO EARTHQUAKE: Seismic Activities, Extreme Cold
The Noto Peninsula earthquake, which measured a maximum intensity of 7 on the Japanese seismic scale, is still active in and around the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, and the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is urging people to be alert for tremors with a maximum intensity of 5 or higher for the next month or so.
The severe cold weather is expected to continue in the affected areas, and rain and snow are expected to fall through the 10th, so people should be careful of hypothermia, landslides, avalanches, and other hazards.
The Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on the 1st of this month caused an intensity 7 tremor in Shiga Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, with intensity 6+ in various parts of the Noto region and intensity 6- in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.
Seismic activity in and around the Noto region remains active, with occasional strong tremors.
The number of earthquakes with intensity 1 or higher was 1,255 as of 8:00 a.m. on September 9.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be careful of tremors with a maximum intensity of 5 or higher for the next month or so.
Snow and Cold Continues in Affected Areas
Rain and snow are falling on the Noto Peninsula, and are expected to continue over a wide area of the Hokuriku region through the 10th.
Since the ground has loosened due to the earthquakes so far, we must continue to take precautions against landslides.
In addition, some of the affected areas are still covered with snow from the 7th, and buildings damaged by the successive earthquakes may collapse under the weight of the snowfall, so extreme caution is required.
