POUNDING OF RICE CAKES FOR FOREIGNERS

A rice cake pounding event was held at the Kai Police Station in Yamanashi Prefecture to familiarize international students and technical intern trainees with Japanese customs.

About 30 foreign students and technical intern trainees from four countries, including Vietnam and Ukraine, living in Kai City and Nirasaki City participated in the rice cake pounding event.

Under the guidance of police officers and police alumni, the participants pounded rice cakes with a pestle weighing 6 kg to the accompaniment of shouts.

They also experienced stretching rice cakes with a noshibo, and enjoyed the taste of Japanese New Year by dipping freshly pounded rice cakes in red bean paste, soybean flour, and sesame seeds.
