President Marcos at Japan PM Kishida, Magpupulong sa UN General Assembly
Ang pakikipagpulong kay Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ay isa sa expected bilaterals kasama si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa sideline ng United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sa susunod na linggo, sinabi noong Biyernes ni Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez.
Si Kishida ay kabilang sa mga first world leader na nakipag-ugnayan kay Marcos pagkatapos niyang manalo.
Sa isang 5-minute phone call noong Mayo 20, hiniling ng Japanese leader ang suporta ni Marcos para sa “the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Nangako si Kishida na ipagpapatuloy ang pakikipagtulungan ng Tokyo sa Maynila sa larangan ng ekonomiya tulad ng pagpapaunlad ng imprastraktura, kabilang ang mga riles at pagpapaunlad ng Subic Bay.
Si Marcos, na nasa New York from September 18 to 24, ay nakatakdang maghatid ng Philippine statement sa 77th UNGA sa New York sa Setyembre 20.
Wala pang kumpirmasyon, gayunpaman, kung kailan at anong oras ang pagpupulong kay Kishida.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na ang iba pang mga pagpupulong sa New York ay magsasama ng mga bilateral kasama ang Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen, at dalawa pang world leaders.
“He probably has at least six to eight meetings with heads of state. There’s also been a request for meetings with other heads of state from Latin America and African states so we’re still waiting for word on that one,” sabi ni Romualdez sa isang news channel interview.
“Again, like I said, there’s a lot of moving parts in these meetings in the UN. There are over a hundred who want to meet each other,” dagdag niya.
Uncertain Biden meeting
Idinagdag ng envoy na magkikita nang personal sina President Marcos at President Joe Biden ng United States sa huling hosts ng isang reception para sa lahat ng mga head of state na present sa New York, ngunit ang isang one-on-one meeting ay “hindi sigurado”.
“Both sides want to do it, it’s, again, just a matter of schedule,” sabi niya. “Definitely, they will be meeting there. But of course, we are looking at an opportunity for them to sit down and have a longer discussion on our relationship.”
Bukod sa kanyang talumpati sa UNGA, dadalo si Marcos sa Philippine Economic Briefing upang ipaliwanag ang administration’s interest sa pagpapalawak at pagpapalakas ng Philippine-US trade and investment relations.
Noong Biyernes, nagkaroon ng pag-uusap sa telepono sina Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo at Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Muling pinagtibay ng magkabilang panig ang kanilang mga pangako na palakasin ang mga relasyon nito at tinalakay ang “shared alliance priorities, both in the Indo-Pacific and around the world.”
