Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga informs U.N. about the Tokyo Olympics 2020

“On Friday, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga reiterated his commitment to hosting next summer’s Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, pledging that the games that were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic would be “safe and safe” even as Japan is dealing with the worst wave of infections yet.

In a pre-recorded speech to the United Nations Suga referred to his previous claims at the General Assembly that the Tokyo Games will serve as “proof that humanity has defeated the pandemic,” which has taken nearly 1.5 million lives worldwide and upended the global economy.

He said at a special session on the latest coronavirus, “I will continue to spare no effort to bring about the games that are safe and secure,”

On the scale of hard-hit countries such as the United States, Japan has so far managed to escape a health crisis. After an initial wave of infections died down, the government lifted a national state of emergency in late May, with a second wave also gradually subsiding in the summer.

In his speech, Suga emphasized the need for the international community to come together to combat the coronavirus, saying that in the face of this challenge, we must realize a “united world,” not a “divided world.

“Japan stands ready to cooperate in the review and reform process” in order not only to resolve the current crisis, but also to be better prepared for future crises, “in order to not only overcome the current crisis, but also to be better prepared for future crises,”

Virtually in September, the U.N. General Assembly held its annual meeting but called a special two-day session from Thursday to address the response of the coronavirus.
