The new categories of work visas for foreigners will begin on Abril 2019. One issue is that the rushed revision to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law is short on specifics in many areas, and officials have three months at the outside to put things in order.
Fourteen business sectors have been cited as likely areas for new arrivals. Under the new work visa, technical trainees will be exempt from the test for the specific skills visa if they have been in Japan for three years. As with other details, a ministerial order scheduled to be issued by the Justice Ministry this month is expected to provide that information.
