Sukiya restaurant chain to temporarily close all stores in Japan

Fast-food chain Sukiya has announced the temporary closure of nearly all of its 1,970 stores in Japan from March 31 to April 4 to strengthen hygiene measures following pest-related incidents in some locations.

The decision was made after a customer at the Akishima Ekiminami branch in Tokyo reported on March 28 that they found part of a cockroach in a takeout product. A similar incident occurred in January at the Tottori Minami-Kitakata store, where a rat was found inside a bowl of miso soup.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to improving cleanliness standards to prevent future occurrences.
