Two men accused of having sex in a public bath in Tokyo

In Japan, citizens of all ages, from very young children, accompanied by an adult, to the elderly, use public bathhouses, known as sento.

Some people simply like the ease and comfort of using a public bathhouse that can save on water bills and cleaning at home, others like to frequent the sento for the supposed health benefits of their waters, often sourced from natural hot springs, while others have little choice but to use the local bathhouse because there are no bathrooms in some apartments in Japan.

Then there are those who seem to misinterpret the bathhouse, which is not its intended purpose, as a venue for sexual activity. That’s what happened at a specific sentence in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward last November, where two men were caught engaging in sexual activities.

Subsequently, the two men, both in their thirties, were charged with public obscenity and confessed to the charges, saying they were conscious that because of signs on the premises, they would cause problems for the establishment, but they “succumbed to temptation.”

The men state they had no prior acquaintance with each other, and on the day of the incident, they met at a public bath. Sexual activity was said to have taken place in the open-air bathing area for about 20 minutes, when the door to the area was opened and the inside baths were used by about 15 guests.
