Typhoon No. 18 Approaching Kyushu

A powerful typhoon (Chaba) is approaching Kyushu and is expected to make its way up the east coast of Kyushu, continuing eastward at a relatively slow speed of 20km/hr, but with very powerful winds. The typhoon is expected to reach Okinawa and Amami tonight.

Heavy rains can be expected in all affected areas, especially Okinawa and Miyakojima Island, even after the typhoon has passed. On Oct. 5 (Wed.), the typhoon is expected to increase speed (up to 35km/h) and move over northern Kyushu.

Residents in Northern Kyushu should prepare for the possibility of heavy winds and rain. As always, it is recommended that you stay informed about the typhoon and prepare for the possibility of transportation cancellations and other closures.
