WOMAN (26) IN PHILIPPINE FRAUD CASE
Prosecutors have sought four years in prison for a”kakeko” woman in a trial in the case of a special fraud group based in the Philippines.
Hitomi Kumai, 26, is accused of theft in which she and a companion made false phone calls to two elderly people from the Philippines in 2019, stole their cash cards, and withdrew approximately 4.1 million yen.
Kumai admitted in court today that she played the role of a “caller” for a special fraud group based in the Philippines, and that “a friend invited me to work part-time overseas for a month,” and that “I was terrified when I saw the callers yelling at me, but I couldn’t escape. I was terrified when I saw the callers yelling at me, but I couldn’t run away.”

While the prosecution asked for a four-year prison sentence, the defense asked that Kumai “should not be imprisoned” because she gave birth to and raised a child with the accomplice she met in the Philippines.
