AMERICAN YOUTUBER, 200,000 YEN PENALTY ONLY?

A “200,000 yen fine” against a nuisance foreign YouTuber is met with widespread outrage in Japan over his numerous misdeeds: According to some Japanese: “Too cheap” and “I wish they’d at least ban him from entering Japan!”

On January 10, Ismael Ramzi Khalid, 24, an American citizen who goes by the name “Johnny Somali,” was fined 200,000 yen.

Khalid was charged with obstruction of business last September at a beef bowl restaurant in Osaka City for obstructing the restaurant staff’s business by playing loud music while filming a video. During the trial so far, Khalid has pledged not to film or distribute videos of any kind in the future, and also answered “Yes” to the question “Do you want to come back to Japan? Khalid also answered “yes” to the question, “Do you want to come back to Japan?”

In addition to obstructing business at a beef bowl restaurant, Khalid has also distributed videos of himself committing a variety of disturbing acts in Japan.

In May of last year, he delivered a video in which he threatened passengers on the Toei Oedo Line that he would drop another atomic bomb on them. Although he apologized for this incident, he subsequently uploaded videos of him loudly moaning behind a female student on a station platform, blocking the path of a car at a red light, and threatening an elderly woman by entering a building wearing a mask.

In August, he entered a construction site without permission and delivered a video of himself being kicked out while calling out “Fukushima. This video led to his arrest on September 21. Later in October, he was re-arrested over the disturbing behavior at the beef bowl restaurant where he was sentenced this time. He was not prosecuted for entering the construction site.

Khalid has thus been guilty of many misdeeds. In response to the verdict, many people on social networking sites have pointed out that the fine may be too small.

“200,000 is too low. He’ll do it again soon.
200,000 yen seems a bit light.
Only 200,000 yen? He’s going to do it again without learning.
He’s making more money than 200,000 yen for distribution, isn’t he?”

In addition, when asked if he would like to come to Japan again, Khalid answered “Yes,” but there was also a string of comments asking him not to come to Japan again.

Yes,” Khalid replied, “but I don’t want you to come to Japan anymore.
These nuisance people are likely to cause problems again, so I hope they will be banned from entering Japan for at least 10 years.

“Only 200,000 yen. After paying the fine, they should go back to their home country immediately. Don’t come to Japan again.”

I wonder if Khalid will continue his activities as a nuisance distributor in the future.
