We always like doing a little closet clean-out at the start of the year for two main reasons. One, because some things are just begging to be retired (overly ripped jeans, we’re looking at you); and two, because it’s the perfect excuse to go shopping. Cosmopolitan been keeping an eye on the trends that will make it big in 2016, and if you want to be ahead of the pack, these are the items you need to snatch up, stat!
1. Victorian blouse
High neck, ruffled, romantic, floral—keep these keywords in mind because designers sure did for their Spring 2016 presentations.
2. Backpack
A ’90s throwback if ever there’s one, the backpack is a practical way of toting all your necessities. Excuse us while we drool over Burberry’s monogrammed canvas version.
3. Slip dress
Don’t let your prettiest lingerie looks languish in the bedroom! Lace-trimmed slip dresses are going to be on fire in the coming months.
4. Mules
Walk a mile (literally) in mule flats. Think of them as a chicer, more grown-up alternative to your comfy white sneakers.
5. Shoulder-baring top
The shoulder-as-erogonous-zone thing isn’t stopping any time soon. This time around, consider tops with shoulder cutouts—different silhouette, same brand of sexiness.
6. Fancy denim
We love our dark-rinse skinnies, but we’re also raring to try the various options seen on the runway. Embroidered, wide-legged, and patchwork denim are just the tip of the iceberg.
