Celebration of the 125th Anniversary

On June 14 and 15, The Consulate General of the Philippines in Nagoya, Aichi held the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, by inviting local Filipino group leaders as well as diplomatic representatives from various countries.

On the first day (June 14), the newly appointed Consul General Roy B. Ecraela celebrated the Philippine Independence Day by receiving the Governor of Aichi Prefecture, Hideki Ohmura, and the Mayor of Nagoya, Takashi Kawamura, who were the guests of honor alongside Philippine Ambassador to Japan, H. E. Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, A.E.P. Among the guests were also the Consuls General of Brazil, Canada, USA, Korea and China, indicating the relevance that the Philippines plays on the international political map.


The celebration with government authorities was held with performances by soprano singer, Aretha Angcao, and the pianist, Miku Sakakibara, followed by jazz pianist, Tohru Noguchi, with some Japanese repertoire.

On the second day (June 15), local Filipino group leaders came from many different cities to meet at Noritake Garden. Filipino group leaders play a crucial role in promoting the interests and well-being of Filipinos, assisting in solving problems and finding solutions to specific issues faced by Filipinos. Filipinos play a vital role in the structure of the community in Japan. They organize events, cultural activities and community programs, promoting integration between Filipinos and Japanese.
