New information on the food poisoning outbreak caused by Yoshidaya’s boxed lunches in Aomori Prefecture.
“Rice in boxed lunches” outsourced to an outside vendor in Iwate Prefecture “was only cooled to about 50 degrees Celsius”
It has been newly learned that rice cooked by an outside contractor was delivered at a higher temperature than instructed, and that Yoshidaya has explained that they “neglected to measure the temperature” regarding the subsequent temperature control.
Hachinohe City Public Health Center’s press conference (day before yesterday)
The Hachinohe City Public Health Center determined that the food poisoning was caused by the boxed lunches.
The Hachinohe City Public Health Center banned Yoshidaya from business yesterday, claiming that 270 people in 21 prefectures had contracted food poisoning from Yoshidaya’s boxed lunches.
According to officials, the cause of the food poisoning is believed to be the rice in the boxed lunches. Yoshidaya had received an overwhelmingly larger number of orders than usual before the consecutive holidays, so it outsourced some of the rice to a vendor in Iwate Prefecture and had it delivered in a cooked state.
