MANILA – Senate bets gave their take on job security for millennials and their plans to provide more jobs to the youth during Sunday’s “Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate.”
Elmer Francisco said he wants to stop the passage of the Tax Reform for Attracting Better and Higher Quality Opportunities (TRABAHO) bill, as he claims it will affect the number of call center agents, whose demographics he said are dominated by youth.
RJ Javellana said he wants to pass measures that will benefit the youth in the long run, such as bills for labor and job security.
Dado Padilla said laws on free tertiary education in state universities and colleges (SUCs) and training provided for free by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority already help the youth.
A former student council leader, Dan Roleda said he wants transport stipends for students covered by the free education for students in SUCs.
Ernesto Arellano said he wants to address the lack of “conscious programs” that will create jobs for the youth.
Toti Casiño said he wants to boost knowledge on science, agriculture and information technology among the youth to create more jobs for them.
For his part, Leody De Guzman said he wants the government to provide additional funds to boost labor programs for the millennial generation.
Reelectionist JV Ejercito, touted measures he passed and co-authored such as the free tuition law for SUCs and the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Law.
Ejercito will also push for transport modernization to open more job opportunities for the youth.
