Lifting the Ban on the Medical Use of Marijuana in Japan
On April 3, it was learned that the government will submit to the autumn extraordinary session of the Diet a bill to amend the Cannabis Control Law and other laws to allow the use of medicines made from marijuana plants.
While expanding the range of possible uses, a “crime of use” will also be newly established to prevent the abuse of marijuana.
Cultivation has been limited to the purpose of fiber and seed collection, but this will be expanded to medical and some industrial purposes. Several government and ruling party officials have made this clear.
