New iPhone will use USB-C as Apple Concedes to EU Pressure
The new iPhone from Apple will be unveiled on September 13, 2023. It is almost certain that the charging cable connection terminal will be “USB Type C”.
The iPhone currently uses its own “Lightning” connection terminal.
The European Union (EU) has mandated by law that cell phone makers standardize the connection terminal for charging by December 2024 in order to reduce consumer costs and waste.
Most of Apple’s new products, including the latest iPad, already use USB Type C. But the company opposed the EU rule. The current iPhone 14 is expected to be the last Apple product to use Lightning.
Apple is expected to implement USB-C with the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, which will be unveiled at its annual fall event next week.
