Possible earthquakes to strike again in Osaka

Japan’s Meteorological Agency is warning people in western Japan to watch out for another big earthquake in the next few days.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Osaka on Monday morning and officials say a similar-sized quake could strike again.

Officials say the earthquake occurred at 7:58 AM local time. It also affected Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga and Nara.

The Meteorological Agency says there is no tsunami warning in the western Japan.

But it says there could be collapsed buildings so people should be careful and stay away from dangerous areas.

It also said people should watch out for rain, because it could cause landslides.

The agency’s official Toshiyuki Matsumori said, based on past experience, there is a 10 to 20 per cent chance of a similar quake hitting.

He said that is most likely to happen within the next week in the same area.
