Stay out of fierce winds

A typhoon is a tropical cyclone whose maximum wind speed stands at more than 17 meters per second. A typhoon is described as “violent” when its speed reaches 54 meters per second or higher.

Violent is the highest level on the agency’s four-stage intensity scale for typhoons. The wind speed is more than 200 kilometers per hour, as fast as a special express or Shinkansen train, and its instantaneous wind speed will be much stronger than the maximum wind speed.

According to the agency, wind of more than 40 meters per second can destroy some houses or distort the shapes of iron-frame buildings.

Trees collapse and moving trucks overturn in a wind of 30 meters per second, and it becomes extremely dangerous to go outside.
