Filipina Idol Group Kawaii 5 Performs in Tokyo

On January 31, 2016, “Kawaii 5” performed at the Icon Doll Lounge in the fashion capital of Japan – Harajuku, Tokyo. Kawaii 5 is a comprised of Pinay teens who were selected to endorse NHK’s drama series Amachan which is currently airing at Philippine channel TV5 in Tagalized (Filipino dubbed) format during weekdays at 11am (before the Aksyon sa Tanghali News) and replay on 10pm.

The group’s performance lasted for about 10 minutes on stage. They performed songs popularized in Amachan including Koyomi no Ue de wa and Jimoto ni Kaerou which are adapted into Filipino versions entitled Kawaii 5 and Hiling respectively. They ended their stint with the lively original pop song called Tambayan. The female group also graced the runway in a fashion show along with Japanese idol groups Tokyo Performance Doll, Baby Raids Japan, and more.

Renowned Japanese designer Mikio Sakabe created Kawaii 5’s costumes for the show. The theme incorporates a fusion of Japan’s idol culture with elements of the Filipino flavor. Sakabe is known for designing costumes of popular idols like Dempagumi Inc. and more. A documentary about Mikio’s costumes for Kawaii 5 and others will be featured on the “Tokyo Fashion Express” show which will be aired on NHK World TV channel on March 14 at 8:30 am, 2:30 pm, 9:30 pm, and on March 15 at 2:30 pm on Philippine time. NHK is seen at Cignal TV channel 83 in the Philippines.
