NHK: Leakage of 20,000+ employee info

NHK announced on September 26 that the personal information of 23,435 NHK employees and others may have been leaked due to unauthorized access from outside of the NHK Broadcasting Center (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). The information of general viewers was not included, and no secondary damage, such as unauthorized use, has been confirmed.

According to NHK, the possible leak includes names and e-mail addresses of employees and staff, etc. On July 31, the possibility of a system breach was discovered. The investigation did not clearly confirm any external leakage, but the leak cannot be completely ruled out.

NHK says it will “continue to work on security measures.
