INTERNATIONAL: Afghanistan Floods Leave at Least 170 Dead, 250 Injured
Afghanistan has faced massive floods since July, which have killed at least 170 people over the past month and injured 250 others.
Heavy rainfall struck the eastern part of the country. The floods have claimed about 20 lives in the province of Logar, where they destroyed houses, livestock, and farmland, and covered streets and buildings with mud.
Many residents who lost their homes took shelter on the grounds of a school. One man in his 70’s said he had lost everything in the flood, and added, “So far only one loaf of bread has been brought to us. What can we do with one loaf of bread?”
Afghanistan has struggled to cope with a series of natural disasters, including a strong earthquake in June that killed over 1,000 people. The Taliban are calling for international assistance.
